Hi Musicians,

I am going to learn piano in some days, I have a keyboard in my house which I try to play. I don't understand what are the things we can do in Piano and what we can't in the keyboard. I want to know what we can do in the keyboard which we can't do in Piano. If you think this is a silly question then please remember that I am a beginner.

Thanks.

Well I suppose on a keyboard, you can make different instrument sounds, and rythms etc.

man,i could write a book about this!!
to me biggest difference is that piano is like alive person, with it's feelings,emotions,colours,touch,existance....
and keyboard is kinda dead.
you will never be able to archive thing on keyboard like you would have on piano.
keabords do have all those fancy sounds and options, but if you wanna play piano, you don`'t need that.
instead of buying expencive state of the art keyboard, buy yourself a piano and enter the magic world of colours,emtions,touch.......
like i said i could write a book on this issue, but there is no point, you agree?

~on a keyboard, you can play using recorded instruments. on a piano you only hear the piano.

~You can tune a Keyboard (you can to mine anyway). On a piano you cant..(i think)

Well, piano's have more keys for starters....isn't it something like 17 more keys or something?????

Piano's have more pedals which are more efficient (if you buy sustain jacks for keyboards, when you release the pedal it stops abruptly, whereas on a piano it stops gentally....)

Piano's sound and feel soooo much nicer to play - the sounds is so much more amazing and even with the digital sampling technolgy on keyboards these days which is great, but nothing beats the real thing.

keyboard's will do for beginners, as you don't need as many keys and don't use the pedal yet and stuff, but piano's are definately a whole world better!!!!

Good luck with learning the piano/keyboard, hope I was of any help!!!

ps - a couple of good things about keyboards, is all the extra instrument voices and recording features, and also the fact that they don't go out of tune - and obviously they cost a lot less!!!!

The piano isn't always bigger than a keyboard. You can buy an 88 key keyboard (or however many are on the piano). The piano has a more magnificant tune to it, you can tell the difference between a keyboard and an in-tune piano. You don't have to tune a keyboard, unless you smash it, then it might need some help in tuning it agoin...lol...and the keyboard can make differenct sounds other than a piano imitation. The piano has a much prettier sound and it is more full.

i suggest you to play the piano, then you play the keyboard...

you'll feel So much difference. piano sounds nicer, and GOOD FOR The Power of YOUR FINGERS. haha..

if you start learning the keyboard first, then you'll feel a bit harder when you play on piano i guess.. but its up to you. that's my experience and im beginner as well.

Alright.. Good Luck!!!

My church's choir group is thinking about buying a keyboard...we are using piano(upstraight) now but they say that the sound of keyboard is more suitable for the songs(i would say this is a very wierd reason)...

I happened to b the pianist, but now they want me to play a keyboard and I never touched a keyboard b4...can anyone give me a brief descriptions of a keyboard-the settings or things like that?

Thank you for any suggestion!

Which keyboard you wanna buy?
Tell them that piano produces more spiritual sound than keyboard and you will convince them!

sorry that i cant give you the exact brand of the keyboard they are going to buy...
but just tell me some common settings for a keyboard, i am sure that will helps...

Anyway, if they want a keyboard, i will play the keyboard, the piano is still there so i can shift to piano whenever i want to.
Maybe they will realize the spiritual sound produced by the piano when they have the keyboard to compare with.

any other opinions/suggestions? thanks alot!

There are lot of setting with keyboard which you can use in church for instance.
i have yamaha p-80 electornic piano and there are sounds like organ, pipe organ ,hammond and others.
if you need more sounds than you should take a look at what i call small keyboards, not electonic pianos.

They have to feel a VIBE of piano,i don't like keyboards because you don't feel that vibe, which of course allows you to produce a huge variety of sounds and colours.
But if they are not looking for that, than any electric or electonic piano(i prefer any 88 keys yamaha) will do the job.
Actuallyt i roland fp3 electronic piano for sale,so if you need it,e mail me.

I am sure they want a keyboard instead of an electronic piano.

I played an electronic piano b4 and I have to agree that the functions are lots.

actually, organ is quite a good instrument too, the player can decide the sound produced for the bass and tenor, separately.

nevermind, just, thanks a lot for those informations!!

Even though keyboard has more features I suggest you learn the piano. Is sounds a lot better. Keyboard uses digital sound. Piano uses real vibration sound.
