hi, I have self-taught myself to play the piano. However since I don`t have a music teacher, my music theory is limited. So here`s my question: Is it possible for one to play Erik Satie`s `Trois Gymnopedies` without the assistance of a `3rd` hand. For now the only way I can play the piece fully with the sheet music that I have, is to ask my sister to accompany me with the melody part while I play the harmonies. I hope I am making sense here. Please enlighten me and if you haven`t heard the song before get it- it`s a simple charming piece.

Thanks in advance. Tone.

Hi Tone,
It would be great if we had 3 hands sometimes.
With the Satie piece- the first section before the melody comes in- you can play with 2 hands. When the melody comes in you need to play the bass note and the chords (accompaniment) with your left hand. The pedal can hold the bass note down to keep the sound going. Change the pedal everytime you play a new bass note. At the end of phrases the right hand can hold the long melody note and play part of the harmony chord.
Hope this helps.

big thanks for the great tip. I never realise the piece required the use of the pedals because all along I have been playing on my ol` keyboard.
