I`ve heard of many exercise books like Hanon`s Virtuoso Pianist, The School of Velocity, The Art of Dexterity of the Fingers and I was wondering what each are good for and which is the best. Thanks.

Not Hanon. I hate Hanon. It`s freakin pointless. Wieck is much better.

Try Czerny. Many of the exercises are written to sound like short pieces and they are much more interesting. I think op. 899 is one of the more interesting but op. number could be wrong.

There`s one mentioned on that site which is sold on the Amadeus Press website (with the video) called something like Mastering Piano Technique.
Hey, there`s a free download (pdf file) on that link because a guy wants opinions on his book. He also has testimonials of people who were helped by his first book.
