At the beginning of the third movement of Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata, the right hand plays many notes below middle C, which is awkward and uncomfortable for me.

Since it is much easier to have the left hand play the arpeggios and the right hand play the melody, why is the piece fingered in the reverse way?
