lots of angry people in this thread... anyway, it`s been said over and over, but if you want to play music seriously (with any instrument), you need to learn how to read music. simple as that. patience is a virtue.
as for sax tabs? don`t bother. sheet music, on the other hand, is around. check this out: http://www.free-scores.com/centre-uk.php?CATEGORIE=160
once again, patience is a virtue. some of the links there are better than others, but it covers plenty of genres. and some of the sites are in french, but deal with it. free sheet music is still free sheet music.

Hi, i just found his through some saxaphone google searches. I`m a 17 year old alto player and play in a professional small jazz band. I have no tabs to add to this reply sorry, but to everybody who has said that tabs should be used purely for string and fret instruments, then you really need to broaden your horizons. The person that posted this comment was clearly looking for some simple songs (or tabs as they put it) to have a fiddle with. "Where did u learn? In a cereal packet". GROW UP!!! If you really cared about music or saxaphone then you`d be encouraging this person to find new music and get used to new things. There`s no right or wrong way to play music...broaden our horizons and if you have nothing helpful to add to this musician then don`t bother slagging them off!!!

Hi i`ve been playing sax for 6 years now. i am a member of a Big Band and a Symphonic wind ensamble, and trust me if u want the bet into groups like this then u need to learn how to read proper sheet music and the fingerings of the notes (tabs won`t help u with this as for example there are 3 fingerings for b flat all used in different surcumstances. but i also believe that there is room for sax tabs. we all want to learn the main riffs of our favourite song and who wants to go and buy sheet music just for this. We may not have real tabs for the sax yet but who says it won`y happen? I think people have the right idea about using the note names, but if u want to be able to play in a Big Band and bust out ripper solos during a piece and write ur own music then u need to learn.

Cheers (if u want to get in contact with me just e-mail me)

Tabs are alright. Websites like www.horntabs.net have sheet music converters for all you ska kids who think tabs suck. Pretty !***!ty system but it works.

The saxophone tabs issue is pretty easily solved. Just like most tabs for guitar (i have seen ones that indicate rhythms) you'd have to know the tune you're going to play or the tab would be pretty useless. The system that I have seen used to greatest affect is this:

Saxophone range = (A1)Bb1->F3(F#3)
The A1 is only found on bari's with a low A key.
The F#3 isn't available on all horns.

so to differentiate between octaves

Bb1-Bb3-Bb2

As for people that have been playing for years using tabs, there are several reasons a person might want tabs. I've been playing for well over 10 years. I've been looking for reel big fish tabs for Eb saxophones. Why would I do this when i can figure them out by ear? Because I don't need practice transcribing music, i just want to take out my horn and play along with my cd. Tabs are also convienient for ska bands because you can fit a lot more music in tab format than notation. I have found this very usefel for rehearsals and shows where i want music but don't have a lot of space for it.

Expect people to be "morons" on forums. The internet is for that and mad porn almost exclusively nowadays.
