What is the best for tenor?

-Selmer Super Action 80 series
-Selmer Ref. 54
-Selmer Model 84 "Ref.36" tenors
-Selmer Series III
-Yamaha custom Series
-Yamaha 62II

I'm confused between which one I should get.

oookk, well, what do you want to play? The references are better for jazz and pretty much rock, but they all do, the marks are better classical (all of this is in general, it really comes down to the mouthpiece and player), and well, yamahahs are cheaper, but I'm not a huge fan of them, I mean they're great horns and all, just me personly. Play em all then pick.

by marks I mean series and super action, sorry. Marks are good though, if you want to go vintage.

i have a yahama (which was more expensive then the selmer) and it was $3000 (tenor)
i think i was ripped off.
but i really like it, its a expert horn for what they tell me and it takes some getting used to.
i've played for a year and a half but they say that i'm really good so that horn would suit me, it depends on what you play how u play how much $$ u wanna pay and how long you've played for.

I really like the custom yamahas... 62 seems kind of meh for me. I would also recommend the model 36 or 54. I tried a Selmer Series II soprano and it sucked bad.

Hey Noteworthy,

It seems like all the horns you mentioned should perform well, all being pretty classy horns. That is a personal taste issue it seems.

Which one actually feels right to you? Is it giving you the sound that you hear in your head?

It seems like after a point it's on the player. With a state of the art horn it's definetly the Indian and not the arrow.

There are after all so many horns to choose from now. I would say put a lot of effort into getting the right mouthpiece and reed combo too. The whole thing working together should make you a happy honker.

Try them all and see what you like,
One horn wont feat all players.
