Hi,

I'm a newbie to the saxaphone world and need help understanding in general what the cost for repairs are. I had a leak and brought it in to the place where I take lessons. The cost came back at $120 which included new pads, a general check up and I'm assuming a big labor cost. Is there a standard fee like cars?

Thanks

That cost seems a bit on the higher end of the price range, but that depends somewhat on how many pads they replaced. However, the labor that goes into fixing pad problems can be tremendous. There really is no standard, because often times the repair person just sits for a few hours with your sax and fusses with it until it works. It could take 5 minutes or 5 hours to fix an instrument.

that seems to high, so tell me, which pads (how many and where), and define "general checkup"
because I have a feeling you're getting jipped.

They are saying that this playing condition is a basic checkup which includes 4 pads for low eb,G#,g and a. then 7 new pads needed total cost 122.50.

ok well, that still seems a tad high, but it does depend on the pads, which can be a pain, and by general check up, if they clean all the stuff that they take off to do pads and this and that, it sounds ok, are there any dents or anything though, springs being replaced?

No dents or anything like that> I was told that for a used sax it is in good shape.
