I'm auditioning for a college marching band, i'm going to play Alto Saxophone. Anyone have any ideas of a good tune that I can learn fairly quickly and something that may impress the judges?
Here are the procedures:
-Prepare a single movement froma multi-movement work, or a short piece (five minutes or less)
-Knowledge of major scales
-Sight-reading
I can sight read quite moderately. I know most of my scales. Now I need a tune.
If you need to learn this quickly I would say the Heiden, and Creston are out. They are great pieces but take quite a bit of study. One to look at would be Bozza's Aria, its not technically difficult but requires a great deal of expressive playing. Or even play a fast and slow piece out of a Etude book, most try outs they will want to hear you play examples of both.
