Hey, I've been playing the clarinet for about 3 years now, and I feel I have gotten to know the instrument steadily and fairly well. However, everyone's been saying I sound really bright for a clarinet player. I've tried changing mouthpieces and using different reeds, but my teacher thinks it's just how I play. And then one day, she suggested me switch to the sax. Actually, I don't think it's a bad idea. I've always wanted to play both the clarinet and the sax. Besides, clarinet seems to bland and I'm getting quiet bored of it. Would changing from clarinet to the saxophone a HUGE change that I'd have a hard time with, or is it somewhat similar and easy to adapt to?

Randomly its essey to switch from clarinet to saxophone and other way arround.
They have simular fingerings. And as you alredy know about Reed instruments you wont have hard time with your embroshure, Even trough ther are some minor diffrenses in them.

What is up with people playing clarinet for three years and then giving up? That's what I did, except I then went to baritone, and then bassoon, and then picked up tenor sax besides. I say go for it. The fingerings are surprisingly similar, and this will give you a "heads up" when playing. I find it to be much easier to play than clarinet, though.
