you need to use your dorian minors in jazz, thats what you almost always use. it is a scale starting on the 2nd degree of a major scale. (D to D in the key of C major) or you can think of it as a major scale with a lowered 3rd and 7th.

Well just remeber to deempisise the ands! Wich is called swinging. You should also buy a jazz cd or something. Maybe of the song you want to play. So you know how it sounds. That always helps me.
