So basically you`re saying ska is easy so why not challenge yourself with a more complicated and sensual music? I`ve never heard that opinion expressed before.

I`m in seventh grade and i play tenor sax.our school music usually isn`t boring.Infact it`s so not boring that we hardly can play it.But we always manage to pull through. Two of my favorite songs that were playing is "Devil dance",which reminds me of pirates of the carribian. And "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"which is three pages long and is really fun,it has all sorts of styles and is probably my favorite song.
If any one knows any Ska scales lemme` know.Thanks.

Why don`t you ask the band director to get a piece that shows off the sax section??

But, either way, I buy a bunch of those piano books with umpteen-million songs in them. I then play either tenor or soprano and transpose from C to Bb - add 2 sharps and take the notes up 1 full step. Works pretty good, get a tons of music for little $$ - much cheaper than trying to buy sax music that is transposed for you.

Also don`t forget for tenor/sop you can play trumpet or clarinet music. For alto, play trombone/euphonium music buy changing the clef and adding 3 sharps.

That opens up a ton of music to play for you.

I play tenor in my school band. I have to admit I do get a lot of boring parts. But if you are bored join a jazz band. If there isnt one at your school look up local youth jazz bands. There are a lot of them you just have to look. Jazz is the best thing for you. You will play much more fun/challenging music. Especially if you happen to snag a lead tenor part.

Try Marching Band. It`s so much cooler than Concert Band. Especially with out band director because he plays low brass and picks out all the coolest parts for us tubas and bari saxes and trombones.
