American University will be hosting a Saxophone
Symposium at AU`s Greenberg Theatre on Saturday,
March 26. The all-day event will include lectures,
recitals and performances by esteemed professors and
performers selected from colleges across the country.
This is a unique opportunity to examine from many
viewpoints the relationship between composers and
performers as new works are created for the instrument
including Debussy`s `Secrets of Musical Composition,`
20th century female composers, and contemporary
techniques. Highlights for the day will include a
masterclass by Dr. John Sampen, a concert of debut
works for the saxophone from an international
composition contest, and an Encore Series presentation
"A Tribute to Brian Minor." Musicians can bring their
instruments for a free diagnostic from Beach
Instrument Musical Repair while they enjoy the
performances. Tickets and further information can be
obtained from
www.american.edu/perf_arts/symposium.
