Just wondering what type and make of recorder all of you play? I just got my new one today. It`s a Moeck Rottenburgh Descant made of mahogony. It`s so pretty and has a much better and softer sound then my yamaha YRS302. I`m so happy to play recorder now cause it dosn`t sound like it`s out of tune all of the time. I also have a mahogony contrabass but I don`t no the make of it.
i don`t like wooden recorders they sound dodgey at least they do to me i like the good old yamaha plastic things. i do have some wooden ones but as i say i don`t play them if i can avoid it.
Hey Kitkat I didn`t realise you were fom Britain until I accidently pressed your proflie button. O.k this might sound a bit cheesy but do you watch Blue Peter cause they are running this competition about their theme tune. The prize is tha you get to record the new theme tune with the BBC Philoharmonic Orchestra. All you have to do is go on to the Blue Peter website and click on music makers. First you fill in the online form and then they short list some people to go to an audition after that you go to a music camp and then if they pick you HEY PRESTO you win. Anyway just thought you might like to apply for it and not waste an oppertunity.
well i`m tempted but i am quite a lazy sod as you will probably know if you`ve seen my post bout practice times lol
no really i wouldn`t be able to enter cos i have so much stuff to do what with my overload of school work cos of SATS and the dancing i do. plus i really don`t adjust to change that well
anyway thanks for letting me know and if you do enter good luck xxx
Hi
I play various recorders I prefer the wooden ones overall but I have an old dolmetsch dolonite one that sounds great.
Of my wooden recorders I can`t pick a favourite each one is so different but I play Mollenhauer(pear) Kung(maple) Hohner(maple) and Roessler(maple) recorders (german fingered).
I have two Soprano recorders, one Gill and one LMI and a Alto LMI recorder which I am just learning the fingering too. I really enjoy the Alto as it isn`t as hard on the ears of myself and my family when I play on it!
All of them are plastic as I don`t have the money for a good wooden one yet. However, I do have a friend with a hand carved wooden Recorder and I do like how it sounds! I`m saving up for a Tenor right now. The Alto is 460016 and the LMI Soprano is 460007. I don`t know what the Gill is as I`ve had it for over seven years now and wasn`t all that into the Recorder when I first got it so I lost the information -sighs-

I inherited, more or less, all three of my original recorders (two wooden sopranos and one wooden alto), and thus don`t know the makers or models. Eventually I stepped on the alto and broke it. In any case, I`ve never encountered a plastic recorder I could stand (I own, in addition to my remaining wooden recorders, a plastic sopranino, a plastic soprano, and a plastic Yamaha alto--the worst of the lot).
Well i have a wooden yamaha alto given by my sister but she didn`t take care of it well. She couldn`t even remember how much it cost nor what range it is! It smells a bit bad :p but i must admit it has a really good sound. Wonder what would the store say if i took it to them and ask them what model it was! *lol*. But its sooo much better than the plastic altos i have. Do you guys know if anything can be done to clean up the recorder? Its really a pity that she didn`t take care of it well. Not to mention she definately didn`t warm up when she played nor clean out the saliva after playing.
Also, she chewed a little on the wood when she played. Can that be treated too? does anyone know? OR is it not worth it at all?
Since im in fifth grade i just play a plastic one, its a pale-ish color from West Music store. but its better than this girl i know becuz she had a blue one from West Music, but this girl stepped on it so know she has a cheap yellow one from walmart for 88 cents.
Hey Bluelagoon I'm sure any good music store should be able to clean it up a bit as they should be used to it on oboes and clarinets, but that might cost a bit. You could always get some wood polish for the outside, mabey file the mouthpiece a little to make it even and smooth again as for the smell hmm.. thats hard just give it a good clean using wood polish or wood cleaners(there are plenty out there for wood instruments) and when ever you use it use a spit remover. This should help a bit.
hmm. Went to a music store and he quoted that it would cost US$50. Think that's reasonable? Well my sis used the recorder in highschool and she had the habit of chewing the mouthpiece. (she says she's a nervous gal. haha) So there's quite a bit of deep teethmarks. Do not think i could do it myself to remove it? She also chewed on the upper part of the bec when she was bored in class or when she didn't want to hold the recorder! So that part has teethmarks and has to be fixed too. What a pity. Just wundering if there's anyone else who chew their their recorders like this? haha. I know the school's instruments (plastic ones) all usually are chewed on and have teethmarks everywhere? Though when playing the recorder, we shouldn't be chewing on it? haha.
anyway, I had it gently wiped through cleaned out the dried out saliva at the bec area. And put it in a nice case with scented balls. Seemed to do the trick a bit.
I think its made of maple wood but no one could tell me for sure. I went to 2 different stores and they gave me different answers.
