Hello! I'm looking to acquire a bass recorder. Since I don't have a spare grand, I'm looking for a plastic one. Does anyone have a plastic bass that they're especially pleased with? If so, could you please post its brand and number? Or any that you really hate, too, I suppose. Thanks! =)

I have the Yamaha and have compared it with two of their YRB-61 wooden basses. Their plastic bass was the superior instrument. One of the YRB-61 basses was downright disappointing. I have also tested the Nova plastic bass made by Dolmetsch. Its design is similar to the Yamaha, but the tone on the sample I tried was a little lighter. I make no judgement as to which is better; it depends on what you like. The Nova is made of thinner plastic and is the lightest weight of any bass I've tried.
I have an Aulos bass too. I think its design is a good one, but the execution of the design is often not quite right with the voicing. If there were a way to individually voice the Aulos bass, I think one could get a fine sound from it. But as it comes in the box, it is a gamble as to what you will get.

I'll second what mira191 said - the only issue I have with mine is that low Ab, B, C#, and high B all seem a little weak. But, there's always weird alternate fingerings that seem to work.
