Hello all!
My name is Evaldas, and I'm from Lithuania.
So OK, I don't know how to start , it may seem a bit weird , anyways, I'm a huge Dido fan, and she plays the recorder, I got very inspired by her and now I want to learn to play myself, I wanna play the same one as she does (I mean not the brand, not the model, but whether it's sopranino, soprano, alto or whatever...), here take a look at this:
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb319/evaldas5211/vlcsnap-256734.png, this is hers, NOTICE that it's withouth the lowest part! It looks to me like an alto, but I'm not sure.
And what are the differences with all those altos and sofranos? Is alto written in different cleff? Is it more diffcult to play alto than the most common soprano? And which one is best for a beginner like me? How different is playing (fingering) between all those? Like lets say I take a written melody in treble cleff, how different the playing would be on those all? And I read that it's better for a beginner a baroque type over German, is that correct?

Hi Evaldas – OK – I'll blunder in!

Yes, looks like an alto (also known as a "treble" in some countries). Soprano and tenor recorders are referred to as being "in C"; sopranino and alto recorders are "in F". Note, though, that all recorders read concert pitch parts, sometimes transposed up or down an octave for convenience. This means that you need to know "C" fingerings and "F" fingerings.
