i'm new
i'm 22 yrs old and i'm taking vocal lesson for about 4 months
but there somthing i would like to know
and maybe you guys can help me

my teacher told me i'm a tenor but still i have problems wuth my higher tones

i have heard rock bands like :rainbow and led zeppelin which the singer sings for exemple in the key of E the first sentence and the next sentence he jumps 5 notes and then comes back for the original key of the song i also heard in one song of zeppelin a whole verse which is in the middle of the song and goes like 5 tones up and then comes back to were it starts

(for exemple :"misty mountain hop" ,"when the leeve breaks" by led zeppelin)

so my question is how can i do taht without hurting myself

and my next question is how can i tell the differnce between a vocal fatigue or vocal damage between a common cold,i mean if i feel kind of sick but i sound clear and very healthy should i or shouldn't i do a vocal warm up?
cause if im cold but my vocal are fine can i sing or not?

namsis,

well, if you are starting to develop your vocal skills, reaching high notes won't be as easy as a snap.
well, if it hurts you might be pushing yourself too hard or you may be doing it the wrong way.
if you're already familiar on using you diaphragm, good. because it helps you to "belt-out"(reach higher notes).
if not, better learn how to use it properly.

and my next question is how can i tell the differnce between a vocal fatigue or vocal damage between a common cold

i think they are somehow connected to each other.
vocal fatigue...it usually happens after a hardwork of practice right? if you don't give your voice a decent rest or drink something very cold after singing it might result to vocal damage.when you feel that your throat hurts, give it a rest.

and if you feel kindda sick, i advise you not to sing first even if you sound good.don't take the risk, things might get worse.

The lead singer in Led Zep wore very tight trousers!

And he was a singer with a three octave voice and able to 'snap' in high notes, rather like yodelling.

Dont try to sing like him - you'll give yourself a hernia!

I think you can try singing "falsette" up to one octave higher your normal range. This technique is the basis of male Altos or countertenors. Only that in their case you can hardly tell the difference...

falsetto?
yep, i agree with jose luis...
have you heard about the alessi brothers?(is my english correct?)
there's this song "Oh Laurie"...when i first heard it i thought the singer was a female alto.
they're really amazing!
