I can sing from the G below middle C to the A just about the stave. I would like to be able to sing a bit higher (maybe a C) so do you think it would be possible for me to do this over a few years?
I am doing musical theater in college next year and i know a lot of theatre songs require a wide vocal range. I am 16 and i have singing lessons

thanks

catherine,
yes, i think it is possible to extend a vocal range.
when i was 11 i can't sing well because i don't have a wide vocal range.awww
now my range is extended, i can reach higher notes.
you can practice some stlyes from different singers...
i started with Karen Carpenter..she's got this amaaaaaaazing style.she also has a good range, she can sing low and reach some high notes.

Yeah I'd like to extend my range with singing too. I can sing soprano and alto. 2nd soprano, I'm really bad with...I can only sing small parts of it...and even then my voice sounds strained. But how do you increase your range?

flautist,

if you intend to sing lyric, I strongly suggest you get an experienced teacher.

The main problem is to be able to use the whole range that you have, more than extending it. In practise it comes to the same, but what I mean is that you could hardly accomplish that without a guide from an experienced professor.

true,
it is important to be guided by someone experienced.

first, they can teach you the proper and better way of singing.
second, they can give you an honest comment on how you really sound(if it's good or not),it is important to know your weakness because you would able to identify what exactly do you need to improve in your singing.
goodluck to you

I have a friend who is a really talented singer and has an amazing range, I recently asked him if he could advise me on how to improve my range and he told me that I should work on control of my voice and that it would help my range, he also told me that I should sing songs that have notes out of my range and just keep practising until I could reach those notes, this helped me a lot but don't ever attempt to sing notes too far out of your range as this could damage your vocal chords in the long term, if your voice feels strained then stop, you wouldn't want to do anything that could potentially damage your voice. Hope that helps.

I also didn't use to have an extensive vocal range, but now I'm able to sing B two octaves below middle C and a high E three octaves above middle C. Doing voice warm-ups like scales definitely helps. I did chorus for a couple of years, so it helped me then. Just start at a comfortable note, sing up to its fifth and back down, and work your way up or down. Also, try singing Phantom of the Opera. ^_^ I did, and found that I was able to reach the higher notes. Just do the warm-ups, and slowly work your way up. Another thing: try singing songs a key sig. up from what it really is. If you sing Happy Birthday in C major, try singing it in C# or D major.
