Okay, so I think I am a barritone/bass. My highest kind of scrapy note is an E natural (above middle C). Anyother note that i sing above that feels like my heart is gonna come out of my throat.

I bought the Brett Mannings singing success which apperantly teaches you about head voice, mixed voice, chest voice, and how to sing and expand your range. I've been using it for about a month and I have no improvement. Like my voice goes no where.

How can I explain it, well the excercises on that thing go really high any ways so its like i can only to 3 scales out of the 8 that they have in each excercise because it says not to "push it".

I am a really good composer and have composed songs for many famous cats in the latin field but i want to start singing my compositions. And sometime soon! is this ever going to be possible??!

It seems like the only way i can sing is with falsetto, but then it sounds really weak! i want to sing in my chest voice and development head voice atleast so i can add an octave to my range so i can sing my compositions. What do you think I should do? I need some advice asap! Because this Brett Mannings Singing success just gives you a bunch of excercises but doesn't really explain to u how to use the head voice. I am confused also, is head voice suppposed to be sung with a nasal sound? or with the laranx down, its really confusing.., please, someone help me!! im depressed ! like really badly

I think the best thing you could do for yourself and your voice is to get a private instructor.

Wow, I can really relate to your problem. When I first started singing, anything above the G above middle C was completely undependable. I figured I was a baritone and left it at that. Then a few teachers told me I was a tenor, which was nice, but no one could seem to help me make a go of my top notes.

After a few years of lessons, I found a terrific teacher who taught me how to blend my falsetto down into my chest register, and then "mix" the two to create a full, masculine sounding head register. I'm now confident right up to a high D! And, believe it or not, I've become a voice teacher myself.

A word about my experience: My first teachers were all women, but the teacher who taught me to blend my registers was a man, and a tenor to boot. Some (not all!) female teachers don't quite understand how to get a male voice to mix, since most female classical singing takes place in head voice, with just a bit of chest at the bottom. This doesn't mean that a male teacher will automatically be able to help you; it also doesn't mean that a female teacher can't guide you with just as much expertise. But this was my experience (One of my female teachers actually said, without knowing I could hear her, "God, I hate teaching tenors. They never do what I want them to." Blaming her lack of understanding on her students was a huge mistake. Needless to say, I did not continue with her).

My advice is: you should definitely seek out a good voice teacher, male or female. Ask them about mixing falsetto, head, and chest registers (falsetto IS different from head voice, believe it or not).

One thing you can do to start off is what I call "octave slides": Beginning at around a B-flat above middle C, start in falsetto and slide slowly down until you reach the B-flat an octave lower, ending in chest voice. Use the vowels "OOO-AHH" and "EEE-AHH" as you slide down. Repeat this several times, going DOWN a half-step each time, until your final slide takes you down to a comfortably low part of your range. You will probably feel a "break" between registers as you start this, but with practice, you can work on eliminating that break.

Best of luck to you! Keep singing!

OK, but I dont think you will like this as it takes time and due dilligence.....

To make your voice what you want, go to prefect-voice and order the dvd at least. You can get the book on amazon for a cheaper price, both for about 60.00 us. I went from a nothing singer to at least something where I can carry a tune and others like what they hear. You will be learning the Feuchtinger method of singing, based on correct physiological principles of how muscles work and how your voice actually works, no "head" voice, "chest" voice or "breathing with the diaphram" junk.......

Here you will learn to first use your voice correctly, so the beginning exercises are silent. You will learn to develop control of, then strengthen, your hyoglossus muscle. The idea is to develop and train your voice mechanism first, then sing later. You cannot train your voice if you are using the wrong muscles, as you only perpetuate the wrong muscles use by singing scales and such...There are no scales or pushing your voice in any way. For example, I kept losing my voice on average every three weeks, after starting this method the first thing i noticed after a few weeks was all straining was removed.. I've never lost my voice once in 2 years since. You will train with this for life, as your hg muscle cannot be too strong.

Go to the site, on the left click the animation, and you see the whole proper and anatomically correct way to sing. I'm auctionmusic on singersshowcase if you want to hear what I sound like, I'm also on youtube as auctionmusic....good luck,

russ
