I've been auditioning with rock bands recently. I have been singing classically, and I'm an alto/soprano 2. However, I can't sing alto-led songs like Joan Jett and the Pretenders, but I can sing tenor-led songs pretty well. Can anyone tell me why is that?

If I were u, I'd exercise a bit to widen my range. I was something between alt and mezzo. my vocalist said when I was in such situation I should determine what is easier for me: to belt high or law notes and then to develop my voice in the direction which is more suitable for it. Now I am mezzo.
