In my experience the valves on Holtons are worse than any other make. Their Q/C was also suspect ... I'd never buy another Holton.

My high school uses a mix of 179, 175 and 181 (about 14 horns in total bought in a range of years) and all have them have problems with the valves being stuck, slow etc...
However, Holton horns produe a very reliable sound. I personally rather like using the 175. I also like Alexander, Ricco Kuhn and Hans Hoyer horns.
