I'm in the seventh grade and my bad director is letting me try out for all-region band(for 9th and 8th grade). I'm going to take private lessons one a week, but what else can I do to prepare?

If there is a given audition piece, make sure you practice it. This piece advice should seem like a no-brainer, so don't mess it up. Since you're taking private lessons, you're instructor should be able to help you with the music and any other questions you have.

Nerves are a thing to watch out for, too. If it's your first audition, expect to be anxious. This is where it helps to know your music inside and out. Also, don't be intimidated by the people auditioning you; they're not going to bite.
