Hello,
I'm attempting to get into a musical highschool and have been preparing the piece Morceau de Concert by Saint-Saëns. I have a good hold on the piece, and can perform a rather melodic interpratation. I was just curious if anybody about the forum had any advice/useful information that could improve my performance in anyway.
Thanks in advance.

Think about extremes. The legato sections play very legato, stacatto sections very staccato. The crescendos and diminuendos need to be drastic.

This piece was developed as an exam piece for the students of the Conservatory of Paris. So this piece is supposed to be a way of showing the faculty that the student can do these techniques. So think of how extreme you can any of it - without over doing it.

just did my solo and ensemble performance of the same piece. the judge kept going on about "really playing it out" and not being afraid to sound a little brassier than normal.
