The original stage production is listed as a five piece orchestra.

But here is your original musicians for the 1982 stage performance:
Conductor:Henry Aronson
Keyboard: Henry Aronson and John Samorian
Guitars/Mandolin: John Benthal
Percussion: David Yee
Trumpet: Tony Kadleck and David Spier(trumpet 1 and trumpet 2)
Woodwinds: Matt Hong and Tom Murray(tenor sax and Bari sax)
Drums: Rich Mercurio
Bass: Steve Gelfand

Woodwinds,as in I think, there is only a tenor sax and a bari sax book.
I don't think he used any clarinet or flute. Not your typical reed books.

Also, I believe the actual original was for only Piano,Drums, Bass guitar, and electric guitar. The first production was in a small off broadway theatre. A very small theatre. When they moved it to the larger theaters is when I think they had Mr. Troob add the other instrumentation.

Often it is still done with only the piano, drums, and guitars.
But I just can't see it without the bari sax. Man, that bari sax make Audrey just come alive and makes her so real.
