Just been wondering if anyone knows any good sites on jazz improvisation for clarinet. I`m the only clarinetist in our big jazz band and if I can`t solo properly, I`m pretty screwed. So please help me!

some times you can`t be instructed on how to improvise on the clarinet or any instrument at that. most times, you have to get a feel for the music and begin to play what you think fits. if you mess up or play a note out of the key, its ok because that`s how you learn and it improves your skills. i tried to get help on how to improvise and I found it but it didn`t help because it wouldn`t help me play how and what I feel.

Listen, listen LISTEN!!! That`s all I can say that will best help you improvise. Listen to your favorite clarinet player, and try transcribing some of his (or her) solo. This should help you with your ideas!

if you wanna hear AMAZING clarinet jazz improv, listen to a jazz band call BIG PHAT BAND. Their clarinetist is a guy named Eddie Daniels. Find a recording of their song Sing, Sang, Sung. The clarinet solo in there was improvised by Daniels.

You can`t just `teach` jazz improvisation. It doesn`t matter if you are good or not.
Jazz improvisation is a form of self expression. I like to think of it as telling `your side` of the story; you`re doing it how you think it should sound.
What i recommend is listing to a lot of Artie Shaw, eddie daniels, and Bennie Goodman. Then, I`d probably make sure you know the song pretty decently, especially the chord changes throughout the solo. Then just have a go. Don`t try to think about what you should play either, let it come naturally.
