whats that genre?    12:24 on Sunday, June 06, 2004 Vote for this post Vote against this post 0 votes

HI,I`m looking for help on identifying a certain type of music. I`ve heard these types of songs in the background of radio stations and then once in the background of a local TV show. The sound is jazzy but I`m not so sure its jazz at all.The one I heard on the radio station I can describe with some words: jazzy, upbeat, smooth but not necessarily relaxed voice, "trippy",euphoric, groovy, she was just singing,no particular lyrics.....for some reason the word swing comes to mind? The vocals were a female,it sounded live but I doubt it was.She had a beautiful voice, the beat was steady and groovy, but not a huge part of what made the song.I couldn`t hear it that well cause like I said it was in the background, but it caught my attention at how cool it sounded, and the vocals were amazing. The other song was a little different from the first, this one sounded similar in style but a really layed back, cool sound with one of those beats you might hear in a hip-hop song, but more upbeat. Also I *think* some people associate this music with the genre "dreampop",although to me it sounds more like jazz, with a fresh new feel to it.I hope this helps,Thanks!
