I've ready every post on this little argument here-so I have a lot to say.
I'm confused on where I stand on Green Day at the moment.
However-I do know that Wake Me Up When September ends is about his dad dying when he was younger (his dad died in September.)
Green Day does give a really good show-but their lyrics COULD be better.
Green Day is a legend like it or not.
But they did take off from touring to promote American Idiot, which was a bad move in my opinion. I'd much rather go watch them live then sit at home and watch them play TRL, or whatever.
Okay-wow, you all are intelligent enough to make an opinion. I understand typos happen-I probably have some. Shorthand is nice, but not when it b like this.
Also, Draven made a point-Bush dosen't CARE. He's in office now, this is his last term. Get over it and suck it up. You can't do anything about it.
Green Day is in their way to being the biggest band in the world because of American Idiot, but I like Nimrod the best.
Julie555-they are influencing many many bands. On Fuse they had some show about them influencing all the modern bands today. Well, bands like Aiden and stuff.
Billie Joe has his own record label, which he co-owns with his wife, Adeline Records. AFI is on their record label. But Adeline also has their own clothing line that is sold at Hot Topic.
They had uniforms at Woodstock (the big mud fight.)
These guys are growing up. They're in their early 30's. They can't keep writing the same stuff. So, they changed a little bit, but everybody changes.
It's Billie Joe-and he is pretty egotistical.
Seal-Nut, I like your metaphor-very creative.
Telling somebody to stop saying Green Day sucks, or to die is only adding fuel to the fire. Einstein actually had an abnormally small brain-so saying somebody has a pea sized brain would be a compliment.
Green Day IS as corporate as Britney Spears. But Green Day is better then her.
They are planning to make American Idiot into a movie. Totally agree that it would be nice if you can go up to a little teenie-bopper and ask them why they didn't like Bush. What is he doing wrong? What can he do right?
Bush rocks? haha, who brainwashed you?
Bush is not a good president. The war is pointless, the prices on everything is going up-but the oil prices are going up because he has money in the oil. After he's done with his little president job-he's going to go get loaded because of the oil. Many Republicans ARE mad at Bush.
Teenagers do have points, they are very important in our culture. But not the brainwashed ones.
If I hate you send you a message? I don't know you-but I hate what you're saying, your opinions everything.
I'm trying to debate both sides, as both have good points-but there are many mindless idiots, and very few smart ones in here-but there are some very smart ones in here.
Bush says some stupid things, but we all do. He just... kind of takes the gold.
Emo is The Cure. Emo is cut my wrist. Emo is I'm going to pretend that I'm suicidal for attention.
Green Day is getting very poppy.
They didn't have their lives made in the shade, but it could have been worse. It could always be worse. Compared to the kids that live in Beverly Hills, Green Day had a sucky life. But those kids, the rich ones, is what their parents wanted, their parents wanted them to grow up in a nice life. Just because some of you may not have a not so nice life, dosen't mean you should hate the ones that do.
Kurt Cobain got killed-it was NOT suicide. Why were there no fingerprints on the gun? How could he have pulled the trigger if he was so high he couldn't even move his fingers?
LSD? It was HIS choice. Schizophrenia, now that's pretty bad.
Dominated Love Slave is hilarious.
So-all the mindless idiots, go read a book with words about something meaningful.
All the smart ones actually on this post-thank you.
I'll further continue this conversation with anyone my IM is whoisbattylogic and my e-mail is whoisbattylogic@wmconnect.com but I'm not going to say things that are mean, I'll debate it with you, not argue and fight.
Think about what you're saying before you say it. Bush sucks and the war is pointless...wrong. Bush is not sending troops for the oil, he is creating a democracy. Of course you, being a friggen liberal, won't admit that, so I'll back my answer. Was Saddam Hussein a good man? Would it have been smart to leave him in charge? He didn't mean to kill all those innocent people. It was an accident. Bush went in there and liberated Iraq and removed an evil dictator. Crime? I think not. And Green Day is no such legend and never will be.
OMFG YESSS!!! i have to agree with this... they are such posers... before they got all pop cultured they were ok.. but now they are just doing wat their record company tells them so that they can make even more money and corrupt even more emo kid minds
while i do agree that green day made a huge mistake in selling out so majorly, i still dont see any of your bush-loving pansy ass-sucking pathetic little pop culture asses up there making a statement about anything. if the best you can do is bad mouth someones art than i am glad i don't know who wou are and you should be too. i think we should all stand together in this crazy, f-ed up world, not tear eachother down with stupid critizims. but if all you can do is be a negitive ass hole we really arn't gonna get any where fast
What the !****! with you man? Green Day is one of the best band ever. It's the first group that came up with such a new punk sound and then many other punk bands were influenced by them. All of their album was a success and with American Idiot they just did something different and it worked. You're telling bullshit
they really are fake... they started out ok but now that they have sold out to the pop culture their music quickly went down-hill. i cannot stand to listen to them now i just shut off the radio... but to each his own...
wow, this conversation is hilarious. There are some of sayin' "respect others opinions" yet at the same time calling them "brainwashed" or "idiot" for having them. People who follow Bush have their reasons and people rebel have their own; their reason is their own preference. It's the same with Green Day. Saying something/someone "sucks" makes me believe that you only know a portion of what you're talking about. (not always the case though, sometimes there can be no dought that something sucks). I find it funny how an anti-bush will call one of his followers "brainwashed by the media" even though the media prints mainly bad news and publicity. Only a small percentage of good news makes it to the media, so how can someone determine who's brainwashed and who isn't?
I don't care too much for Green Day. Their songs have always(not just their new ones) had that airy-like sound to them. The kind of song that makes you believe that the syllables in the lyrics doesn't match up with the rythme of the song, and has to be drawn out in abnormal places to make it fit. (not implying that that's what they do, just saying that's what it sounds like).
I agree that bands need to change every now and then, but just because they changed doesn't mean that their automatically good. If Green Days lyrics matched up with their music better and profected their composition alittle bit, they would a whole lot better.
I also like seal-nuts metaphore(sp?). Green Day isn't quite as terrible as Simple Plan or Good Charlotte.(or Britney Spears) but they're not acual rock legends like Pink Floyed, or The Stones. To become a rock legend you'd have to be extremly talented and making records for about four decades or more. Green Day has only been around for about 2 1/2 decades at the maximum(not sure of when their first label came out; I know it can't be any more than that because Billy Joe is in his mid-thirties and I don't think he made labels at 5 or 6 years old).
But anyway if the only previous knowledge of music you've had is SP and GC, then Green Day would seem like prodagies to you, but they arn't compared to the more experianced bands.
Yes I'm aware that The Rolling Stones and others were new bands at once too, but back then they weren't referred to as "legends" yet.

before someone says anything. I'm neither an Anti-bush or a follower. I don't get into politics much.
