I believe Bob Dylan was the first to cover the song, which started a string of covers resulting in the one by the animals, which is the best

the animals version was the original, but many people have covered it, i wuold like to here the floyd version though.

As I said, Bob Dylan was the first to record in the 60s, on his first album, then it was covered by many in the coming decades, and the animals version is the one that went to #1, and is the best.

folksinger Dave van Ronk recounted that he had originally worked out the arrangement that Dylan then "borrowed" for his first album, and which was subsequently borrowed in turn by Eric Burdon, who, in 1964, took the song to newfound popularity when it was recorded by his British rock group The Animals.

Straight from wikipedia, the animals "borrowed" their arrangement for the song fromt the dylan version, which was done first.

Yep, the Dylan version was done in Novemeber 1962

Well ill change things complelty and say the doors version is my favourite...but i do like the pink floyd version
