For me Master Of Puppets from their 1986 album is their best album. From the trademark thrash of "Battery" to the instrumental stylings of "Orion," it's a sound of a band on top of their game.

Out of all their albums master of puppets is the best. It's the most consistent. Master of ... and Rde the lightning are probably the only two Metallica albums I can put on and listen to untill the end without skipping a track. But Battery, Master of puppets, Orion, Disposable Heroes, Damage Inc and Welcome Home all make the album one of my favourite albums ever.
