Hello
I`m preparing a presentation about `Apocalypse Now.` There is this famous scene where Americans are playing Wagner`s `Ride of the Valkyries` when they attack some village.
Could you please tell me what this part of Wagner`s opera is about?
Thank you

the ride of the valkyries involves Brunnhilde flying on her horse away from an angry god Wotan. as she flees, she calls out to her 8 sisters for help and they join her in flight. she tells her sisters that she disobeyed the god Wotan by helping Siegmund take someone elses wife. this act made Wotan angry and after killing siegmund and the enraged husband he is now after brunnhilde. there is more but that covers the basics.
