Going to Bassoon

I am going to be switching to bassoon this coming school year, and was just wondering: Is there anything I should really know about it? I played clarinet for three years, and piano for one. Any advice on helping me to better understand this awesome instrument would be greatly appreciated.

Read all the on-line bassoon forums - every question thought of has been asked on them - and answered! It's a good place to get an idea of what problems people have, etc.

as long as youre under the instruction of a good teacher, you should be fine. luckily you play piano and can play bass clef already. so i say go 4 it.

Congrats on picking an awesome instrument! If you will be teaching yourself, try to find someone to help you. Twelve keys for two fingers can be confusing at times. Once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze! Have fun!

I switched from clarinet to bassoon about 5 years ago. Don't worry, it's not that hard of a switch. I actually taught myself how to play, so if you have somebody teaching you it will be even easier. It would also be great if you could find a private teacher near you. They help a lot with learning about the right reed to use, and helping with fingerings and such. Hope everything goes well!
