Which of the tenor clef instruments are better-bassoon, trombone or `cello?

I know this is wierd to be posting in a bassoon forum, but i've found the bassoonists to be very disloyal to the bassoon

WHat are your thougts?

I find the bassoon to be one of the very best instruments. I usually dislike brass (weird, because I played brass last year) This said though, I still cannot shun using beautiful, warm-sounding cellos, and dynamic trombones in some of my compositions. So I guess I prefer all of them, but especially bassoon. I guess it's better because I think it has a wider octave range, and has varied tones through-out (although high notes - from my view - are extremely difficult to work into a piece of music without sounding ridiculously out-of-place).

I quite like the trombone in a brass ensemble but don't like it too much alone or in small jazz bands, it works best in a good brass band imo.

The Cello is wonderfully warm, it has a very nice human voice.

I'm just more of a woodwind person. It's the breathing into an instrument so it sings that really gets me. So i'd still go for the bassoon.

I love the bassoon. I really do. But I do kinda wish I took up the trombone, just because, it's very flexible - you can get beautiful mellow melodies, or you can harsh marchlike characteristics that you sometimes find in bands and orhestras, and it's also a fantastic jazz instrument... unlike the bassoon. I'm sorry, but I can't stand jazz bassoon. I do love the bassoon though.

When it comes to the tenor clef... dunno the difference between those to really. I think they back about the same range.

The cello... it's easier to play tenor clef cus you just move up a string (until you get to the top string, of course) and.... you can play the Swan... and elgars cello concerto... errr... that's about all I can think of really.

So I'm gonna say bassoon, just cus that's what I play :p

I love the sound of a well played cello, trombone or bassoon. It's wonderful sitting in front of a good 'bone section - for example playing contra in the last movement of Brahms 1st & 4th symphonies there are chorale like passages where the contra poses as a tuba an octave below the bass 'bone. (Many trombonists I know are happy to sit silent through 3 movements just to play these bits.) But I have no desire to play cello (I leave that to my wife)or 'bone (How do you get the sound? - I tried in the past but failed)
