Two Pieces

Hey

I have this performance coming up in early May. I need to have two pieces selected for that time. Obviously not something that's overly difficult (given the amount of time and my skill level).

I've already chosen to play the first movement of the Hindemith sonata. Does anyone have any recommendations for the second piece?

i was also thinking about playing something out of the weissenborn method book (one of the longer 50 advanced studies). i just need something i can learn quick. still, any other suggestions?

Elgar's Romance for Bassoon and Orchestra? That's about grade 8 standard in England.

1) i'm playing either unaccompanied or with piano.

2) i forgot to mention skill level. i can't put a number or anything on it, but it is definitely not grade 8. i can't play anything too difficult just yet. i haven't played much of anything at all. i've been working on the mozart concerto at slow speeds just for fun. i need something a little easier on me.

another song i though about was the Telemann sonata in F minor. What do you think of this?

Sadly not... am referring to PAGE 27 in the Weissenborn.

If you have the time for devoting your skills to develop nice sound, dynamics, feel, etc., THE TELEMANN SONATA IS DEFINITELY WORTH GOING FOR. I played the first and last movements of the piece, and they are some of the best movements of any sonata ever written. Of course, the entire sonata is a masterpiece .

To James (bareego): I actually consider the Weissenborn book fun and that specific page, I actually liked. I had so much fun with the very first excercise on page 27...the joys of Weissenborn.

To Grieg-Bizet: I don't mind spending time on feel, dynamics, and such. If I can get the notes together with the dynamics (and probably a recording of the song), I think I'll be ok. And I'd only be playing the first movement.

It's kind of hard to find music for myself, since most things are either too easy or too hard. Nothing really fits me somewhere in the middle.

Have you looked at the Hurlstone sonata? I've played the first mvt, which is amazing, and about Grade 7 standard. The other two are a lower standard, and I haven't tried them, but I'd definitely recommend the first mvt.

Elgar's romance for bassoon is an absoloutely stunning piece. i was thinking exactly the same thing.
If you don't think you're grade 8 just yet, how about the last couple of movements from mozart's bassoon concerto? first movement is grade 8 and really hard, but the middle two movements are grades 6 and 7.
Or alternatively, first movement of the Fasch sonata for bassoon is nice. grade 8, but not actually that hard when compared to stuff like mozarts concerto 1st mvt.

well, for now, i think i've pretty much settled on the first movement of the hindemith and the first movement of the telemann. I'll look at those other pieces later just for the sake of it, or have one ready for a performance next year, possibly.

How about something like the Impromptu Op. 35, No. 9 by Gliere or even the Concerto for Bassoon Op, 75 by von Weber? Just some other options for you if you have the time.
