 Reeds are so awkward. 
When having reed trouble you should use trial and improvement. Go through a checklist to see what the problem is. So: 
Soak the reed 
if you hear air leaking check the seal between the reed and the crook (you might need to ream the reed) and between the blades of the reed. Like someone else said, if there's a leak in the neck of the reed nail varnish is v.useful! 
Check the opening and adjust the wires as appropriate.
 
Along with anything else I might have forgotten. Don't forget to test your reed on your bassoon every time you make an adjustment!
