no, the bassoon is awesome and yes sometimes the bassoon does play baritone/trombone parts but after the level 2 music and u start playing the upper 3`s and above that in band, it usually gets its own part.

my band is still doing grade 1 band and it`s all trombone and baritone parts... except for 1 piece. o canada. i get to play this crazy counter-melody that makes the ending of the song so cool. i love it. and even though 30 other kids are playing against me someone said they can actually hear a faint little counter-melody in the back. lol.

i can`t wait till the music get`s harder and i get better parts.

I have played the bassoon for over 7 months and i had switched from the clarinet because the clarinet is not a challenge to play. The bassoon is the grandfather of instruments and should never be forgotten

well i am the top ranked high school bassoonist in utah so it looks like you`ve got some competition.

I`m a trumpetplayer too and I`ll decided last year to learn a second instrument. I`ll started with bassoon because my girlfriend is a oboe player.
It was not easy in the beginning, but I found guys that helped me a lot by giving me tips and also a good service.

I too need some advice....my band teacher in my middle school where i am now asked me to play the bassoon, and id be switching from the clarinet TO bassoon. I know im going too, but as a beginning bassoonist i could use some advice.

I started playing the bassoon a little less than a year ago and have made it into my high school`s Wind Ensemble!!! I`ve even heard that I`m better than those already in the W E. But all of that could only have happened with tons of practice and no IT IS NOT EASY, but I worked hard and now I have my rewards. I play all of the woodwinds, but I started out on te saxes. Now, I want bassoon to be my main instrument because it`s cool and I know I can get alot of good college scholarships on it. No one should ever put the bassoon down. (By the way I`m only in eigth grade)

I`m in middle school and I just started playing the bassoon. It is a challange, but I enjoy challanges alonge with playing the bassoon. It is a fun instrument to play though.
