Strings keep getting out of tune

well here's the deal. the weather has been abnormally hot, like 70! and its been around 30-40 the past few days. well i picked up my violin a few mins. ago and it was discustingly out of tune. i tuned it, played for a few SECONDS, and it went out of tune again! so basically, i can't tune it cuz it will just go back again.
do i need new strings or what?

Even though I don't play violin my friend that does had a similar problem. It'll probably get better when the heat goes down.

Come on! the heat doesn't affect the strings within seconds. Nylon/gut isn't a superconductor.

The only problem is the tuning pegs must be slipping- push them in REAL tight. If that doesn't work you might need to take them out and put some chalk on them-string shops will probably be able to do that.

I don't play violin, but worked in a music shop long enough to know that if you're strings are going out of tune that fast, it's either time for new strings, or your tuning pegs are slipping and could use a little (very little) peg compound. Worst case, get the pegs refit.
But I'd try restringing first. Unless you're tuning in a warm room and moving directly to a cold room, I doubt the temp is having that much effect.

You don't need new strings. It's the weather. Abnormally hot (or cold) weather knocks violins out of tune like there's no tomorrow. See if you can store/ play your violin in a colder room (if you have one) and that might keep it in tune a little better.

It goes out of tune because of the amount of moisture in the air, and there's nothing that you can do about it, unless you move the violin so that it is slightly cooler.

It's either that, or the pegs. I'll bet that it's the weather.

Well It is mostly the weather which can be very annoying at times. Make sure that your pegs are in place and make sure that they're tightly in there. If it is your strings then you should get some better strings. Most more expensive strings seem to be more resistant to getting out of tune.
