Brand new to violin needing some assistance

I'm just starting the violin and I'm a very fast learner. I don't have a problem with reading music, either. I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for learning to play on my own. I've checked my local colleges for violin classes but can't find anything so until I can actually find someone I would like to learn on my own. I know it's not optimal, but I used to play the saxophone and taught myself most of it and got very good at it.

I would say the best way to learn is get a beginners method book, like Suzuki or string explorer and watch YouTube videos. I would also say look for private lessons online and in the yellow pages, and tAke some.

There is a site that many people find helpful for learning the violin. It is called Violin Lab. There are numerous videos that teach all aspects of learning violin. There is a fee to join, but it is alot less expensive than taking private lessons for those of us who cannot afford lessons.

Thanks guys. I have taken notes of all of these recommendations and am saving them for later. Unfortunately we're having a financial issue right now and can't afford a violin at the moment. I was playing with my dad's, but he's not going to give that to me.

Violin is a tough instrument and have lot of technical detais. It is better to start learning with the help of a teacher. Even two or three classes per month is fine. All online materials and videos can be used to enhance your skills. You will not regret it as you save a lot of your time and that time can be used for other productive things.

Find a scale system and arpeggio system that you can practice with every day, and you will be golden.

Carl Flesch Scale Systems is a great book for violinists (Itzhak Perlman practiced using it)
