Hello all, I have played guitar for about 6 years and piano for about 2. I can read guitar music pretty well and piano a little less well (surprise surprise). After a recent trip to Italy I have been inspired to start playing violin. I`ve tried it before once or twice on a friends and feel it will be easier to pick up after playing guitar than just say piano or nothing. QUESTION: What type (brands or etc) and what price range should a novice look to purchase? Any help would be appreciated.

i would be fine spending $300...i`ve read some of the other reviews on this site and it seems people talk about decent starting violins for less...would it be worth spending a little bit more in ur opinion, or do you think i should spend less?

Or tiger or peacock or dalmatian
Personally I prefer the traditional sort, in the main, though i confess to being rather fond of the butterflies

The painting (or whatever they use) is different and the carving is interesting, but I think they should concentrate on the sound more.

They do!

If something sells, well, why not? After all, there are plenty of very low quality painted violins out there that sell for a lot more than they would do if they were not painted. These at least are of the same quality as the plain Gligas.
