Hello!

Well, I wouldn't suggest a C-D to begin with, but rather a B-A for example. Also, there are neighboring notes which are nearly impossible to trill because of the huge difference between their fingerings. Here we use alternate fingering combinations, which are although a little bit flat or sharp, but are much easier to trill. If you search the web for 'recorder digits', you'll find a little freeware tool with a lot of such fingerings. The exact way to perform a trill varies by musical style and personal taste, it's different in folk music, baroque music, classical music, contemporary music, etc. Generally, baroque trills start from the upper note. A trill may be even, you may sustain the upper note for a little before going on to the trill, and you may as well change its speed while performing it. You can find a quick home made recording of Vivaldi's Largo from violin concerto The Winter (played on recorder of course :-) in my profile, it has a few trills you can listen to.

I hope this helps, all the best,
Peter
