Extended Mordents - A Guide to Ornamentation

The extended mordents, upper and lower consist of five notes instead of three (see upper mordent and lower mordent).





The upper extended mordent is often used in old music for the trill sign; there should be no turn, unless indicated by two small notes following the principal note.
