About 'Nimrod from Enigma Variations '
Elgar, Edward (biography)
June 2, 1857 , Broadheath, Worcestershire
February 23, 1934
English composer from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries who wrote some of the most popular works in the English repertoire.
It is a set of fourteen variations dedicated to his friends and family. The enigma is the hidden theme, which has been the subject of much speculation.
This variation has become popular in its own right and is sometimes used at British funerals, memorial services, and other solemn occasions.
A version was also played at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
