About 'Batti, batti o bel Masetto (Zerlina's aria from Don Giovanni)'

January 27, 1756 , December 5, 1791
Salzburg , Vienna
The Artist:
A child prodigy, Mozart wrote his first symphony when he was eight years old and his first opera at 12. He went on to write some of the most important masterpieces of the Classical era, including symphonies, operas, string quartets and piano music.
An aria from Mozart's Opera Don Giovanni. Sung by Zerlina, a peasant girl, Masetto's fiancee. Masetto is angry at Zerlina for going off with Don Giovanni, so Zerlina pleads with him to beat her if he wants, but that she is innocent of anything to do with Don Giovanni.
