A child prodigy, Mozart wrote his first symphony when he was eight years old and his first opera at 12. He went on to write some of the most important masterpieces of the Classical era, including symphonies, operas, string quartets and piano music.

It is the 3rd movement from The Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K. 331. The last movement, "Alla Turca", popularly known as the "Turkish Rondo", is often heard on its own and is one of Mozart's best-known piano pieces; it was Mozart himself who titled the rondo "Alla Turca". It imitates the sound of Turkish Janissary bands.
