English composer from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries who wrote some of the most popular works in the English repertoire.
It is a set of fourteen variations dedicated to his friends and family. The enigma is the hidden theme, which has been the subject of much speculation.|
This variation has become popular in its own right and is sometimes used at British funerals, memorial services, and other solemn occasions.
A version was also played at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
