The lowest possible note is b flat one octave below the staff. You need the b flat key on your flute in order to play it.

Highest note appears to be either an F, or more commonly a C or D (when it comes to actually being played in a piece on a regular basis).

It`s supposedly an F. The F that is located on the 7th line above the staff. I managed to be able to play up to a D fairly easily, with a very tight embouchure and such. But that`s the highest anybody I personally know can play. Very easily up to the D... But then the Eb, E and F are very difficult.

Robert Dick did some experimenting with this and managed to play up to the G above that, but that was with some alterations to his flute.

C is the highest note shown in most beginning flute books. Which is why everybody here is saying C. They probably all ran to look in their books and saw a C, and said that must be the highest note. However, C is the highest note you will ever use in band music and most flute solos and such, until you start getting to the very advanced stuff. I`ve never used anything above a C in music that I`ve played. I can play the D, but I`ve never had to.

it`s an F, I`ve played it before. u might think it`s c or such because they highest note isn`t used very often, it doesn`t h`ve the very pretty sound because it is so high, another interesting thing is that the high octaves on a flute will act as like a dog whistle because it is a melodic instrument

It`s a D. It goes from C (1 line below staff), to C (1 space above middle of staff), to C (2 lines above the staff), to C (like 5½ lines above the staff), to D (the 6th line).

in theory there is no highest note, the instrument is capable of sounding notes so high that you wouldn`t even be able to hear them, the only thing holding you back is air pressure and embouchure.

The highest /playable/ note is an f#. If you people would stop going to your method books and thinking the highest note playable on the flute is the highest note that they list, you`d realize this.

The highest note that I can play is the fourth octave Eb, and I don`t even know if all of these fingerings are correct. But this is a very interesting site, as far as finding fingerings, alternate fingerings, etc.-- there are as many as 18 fingerings for some of the notes.

Anyway, not to re-hash an old subject, but I thought of this thread while looking for a certain fingering.

Check it out.
