Are Venus Piccolo really good sounding? I was thinking of ordering at least two of them. I like them because it is in differnt colors and can really tell people what you are like.

They are not exactly a good brand. I had one to find out if I liked playing piccolo but them bought a yamaha one. They aren`t good quality instruments.

Any piccolo that is colored is generally not going to be good. The dealers put out these products because they think they might attract people in the teen area who don`t know a lot about brands and such. Most likely it will fall apart on you.

On the plus side, purple and gold ARE nice colors (my college colors!). It`s commendable that you want to show school spirit, but probably best to wear the colors rather than buy a purple piccolo, the quality won`t be very high.

They are not very durable in my opinion. The problem with the off brand ones is that if anything ever needs replacing, like a screw, a tech can`t order the part to replace it.

But that, IMO, is an over-rated problem. Many pivot screws from Taiwan/China are interchangeable with other brands from there, such as Jupiter. Jupiter parts are VERY readily available, and where I am, extraordinarily cheap.

In any case, a good, well-equipped technician can make pivot rods, and modify other screws and washers from another brand. Keys themselves can be repaired unless they are made of `pot metal`, which is rather rare, perhaps unless the instrument is sourced in India.

Hmm... I wonder why repair techs won`t touch off brand flutes or piccolos then if they don`t have problems finding parts?

Fear of not being able to repair the instrument?

The reason they do not repair them is because they can`t. Some brands use their own custom supplies and the repairing techs can not/will not find them.

If you want a good, quality piccolo, go out and buy a YPC-32 or, theres another option.

You could search on the internet (Yahoo or MSN search engine) "Used Yamaha piccolos" or "Yamaha Piccolo YPC 32" and then look through the results and find one at low cost (not in the UK) and suggest buying that piccolo. If it has any problems with it once you recieve it, get it repaired.

Vua La, you have a good, quality piccolo.
