poor Telemann, how did he devolve into this?

Possibly about the same time the majority of the people this site decided it was ok for certain people to harass others on a daily basis simply because they dislike someone. I find it quite amazing that the whole Lera harassing started more than a week ago, and yet it continues to happen and people think it's ok. It's really quite sad. I applaud the original poster on this thread who is the only one to try crowd control.

Bilbo,

I personally find no humor in your trashing of the Southern dialect. Contrary to popular belief the majority of the population does not speak like that, and the old standby "jokes" are borderline rude.

I'm not really sure when all of the drama, discrimination, and rudeness became the norm here, but it does put a damper on wanting to check in on this site. I am really curious where all of the mature and intelligent discussions went.

Someone needs to lighten up. The accent in the south can be very thick and almost hard to understand myself, but taking it so seriously with great offense on a forum is rather humorous. I don't think that anyone meant any harm by it. I am not sure what happened with the whole Lera issue, but I don't see any personal attacks going on.

Take a deep breath and don't take everything so seriously. If you simply do not like the way people choose to participate in this group, my suggestion to you would be to look else where as this is not the only flute forum on the net.

If your metronome is off by "one or two clicks," don't use it! Either take it in and fix it, or feed the trash can with it!

(I think that Bilbo and Kara should be able to joke around a little; they are valued forum members and, even though it's not very nice, to be human is to NOT be nice sometimes... sad, but true. It's funny and nothing is really meant by it. Most of us are adults (or almost adults) and we can all be a little sarcastic now and then.)

(bad-spelling syndrome hasn't hit me yet, but I don't want to take my chances... looks contagious.)

<Added>

And 220 minus 180 is not two or three. I have failed algebra twice in my life, but I know that much, no insult intended. (I think it's 40...)

Being a "valued" forum member does not give you any more or less leeway than the "non-valued" members on the forums. I believe every opinion here should be at least read and considered before it is considered valued or not. What exactly defines a "valued" member anyway?

I have always considered Bilbo a great commodity to these forums, which is why I became so insulted with someone who is normally accepting and kind to make such offhanded comments.

The picking on Lera thing has really gone on long enough. It was bluntly stated in this thread or one of the recent ones that her opinion doesn't matter. I don't see why hers should not matter but others are taken as the gospel. Just my two cents.

Each and every person on this forum has a right to be here, and the right to be here and discuss FLUTE should be given without harassment or judgements. We have no idea who is sitting behind a monitor reading what we post, and no idea who could be offended by what is written. All I am asking for is a little decency and respect for mutual members who want to come together and discuss flute. Why is that such a hard and disturbing concept? If you want to goof off and make fun of people, use the PM system or give out your email. This is supposed to be a fun place to discuss flute/music, and not some place where new and old members alike are not welcome or told their opinions don't matter because they are not "valued".

Geesh.. just chill out and stop taking life so seriously all the time. No one meant any harm by anything.

If is stresses you, I would suggest having a couple of strong drinks then before you enter this forum. Lol!

Lera,
"I have 2 different Metronomes.
But One of them is off by 2 or 3 clicks, I think. If Presto is 180 on one and 220 on other."
Interesting. Is one an antique?

One needs to remember that the terms that they use to describe the style of music are only guidelines. Vivace means "full of life" Lively brisk. This is more of a mood than a speed but if faster makes it sound full of life, then go for it. At any rate it is not a set speed between two clicks on a metronome.
So Presto is faster than allegro but also may have meant the same as allegro in earlier music.
By my dictionary vivace and presto could be interchangeable terms.

Now this piece, A Tempo Giusto is kind of vague because it means, An appropriate tempo for the type of music OR a return to the beginning tempo. (Which it clearly doesn't mean here because it is at the beginning.) So, based upon the performances that I've heard, I would say that it should be played fairly brisk but not rushed. This gives the numerous arpeggiated measures a certain quality in a reverberant room. The piece flows nicely in 1 beat to the measure if a player gives a tad bit of stess (not accent) to each 1st downbeat.

The second movement should be in two beats to the measure with the phrase divisions falling about on 4 measure sections and the breaks in the middle of the measures. Maybe we sould think march.

The third mvt. is a Menuet. A specific dance from Telemann's day. It should be played at that tempo or maybe a tad faster since it is a solo piece. But absolutely stress the form of the menuet and don't loose the stately feeling of that dance.

Because these pieces are "fantasys" they really shouldn't be played "Metronomic" and the whimsical more dramatic aspects of the music should be brought out. This gives the player the possibility of some rubato, some accellerandos and definately a few ritardandos.
Hence I return to the concept:....use NO metronomes on these pieces.

I was not implying that, because Kara and Bilbo are valued forum members, they have the right to be teasing... I was even going to add onto the comment I made before about it, explaining that it was not what I meant, but I thought that it would be okay how it was. I do agree that the Lera stuff has gone on too far, but joking around is just what it is--just joking around. If Lera really hated it, she would report us or talk to us about it... I am not saying that, because she has not saying anything about it means she is fine with her, but I think we should ask Lera.

Lera, is any of this bothering you? Please let us know so we can fix this problem before the forum is split so severely that we have even more problems.

It is good of you both, DottedEighthNote and schoolgirl, to stick up for Lera and say something about this "teasing" going on, but you don't really have the right to attack the other members of the forum for it. I remain neutral on this, but I do think that people have the right to say whatever they are willing to face the consequences for.

The words "get a grip" spring to mind...

There is very little point picking on Lera's spelling. If she has problems with spelling that is because her first language is not English and you are not going to fix it in a matter of weeks. Since I don't see any of you communicating nearly as well as her in Russian I suggest you let it go.

Don't tell me to get a grip either when we were just having fun. I am NOT the one who needs to be getting a grip here. I am not going to comment on Lera's spelling or on her native language but I will say this, I think that she has gotten some people blind sided.

I have said my piece, now on to the next thread alreay.
