Perhaps it helps to study that bar, or the whole passage slowly, with the piano if possible, and gradually increase velocity until it's fine.

good luck

Ooh! I could use some sightreading help. What should i always keep in mind when i'm sight reading?

These are the things I do..
-Check key..time sig.
-tempo..(slow or fast?)
-look for any notes that go out of range. (really quick glance)
-Dynamics

HHhmm. I don't know you guys. Is there anything else? When I have to sight read music.. the judges give us 1 minute to look at it..and these are the things i look at.

The tips above for sight reading are good, another thing i usually do is try and interpret the piece as best as possible. What is the composer trying to convey through this piece? What sort of time period was it written in, and how can i make this piece sound musical. Always remember good style and use of dynamics and phrasing- even if you're sight reading.

Emz, I'm also having my ABRSM Grade 4 flute exam! It's on August 16th. *crosses fingers*. I don't think sightreading will be that difficult. Yeah, look out for the dynamics, key signature, time signature and tempo. Keep going even if you make a mistake. It's the overall that matters. If you are somehow worried, you can always sightread studies. Well, that's what I do. Sightreading is something which you need to do on the spot without any preparation unlike your exam pieces and scales. I'm also hoping that the examiner will give me a piece with not too much accidentals here and there, sharps / flats and with a steady tempo. (= .. All the best!
