Well I just found out today I got in Wind Ensemble and I got 2nd chair out of 6 flutes that was picked and I will still find out later this week what chair I got for symphonic band. I'm surprised that I got in wind ensemble, after the audition I had.

Perhaps this accomplishment could make you revise your perception of your own capabilities. It could well be that your are much better performer than you think...

I got 1st chair in symphonic and I play the Piccolo. Any advice on the pic.?

Some advice I would have is to make sure the band is tuned to the piccolo. I was at an honor band once and there was a long speech the conductor made to the piccolo player that she had to make sure the band was in tune with the piccolo. Not meaning the piccolo can just play sharp and everyone else has to play that way, but, considering it's really tough to tune a piccolo, the band should be flexible enough to wrap around the piccolo's sound.

That and always think about how loud you're playing. If it says ff, play it f (especially on higher notes), because what I've found it that if I play it exactly how it's written, I'm always a little loud. That's just the nature of the piccolo because it's high. (Plus, when you play high notes, it's always going to be a bit louder than usual...)

This was probably basic advice... just two things directors have told me about playing piccolo. Hope it helps!

I don't find it that tough to tune a piccolo. If you're in tune with the tubas, you'll be in tune with everyone else.

I agree about usually playing softer than what is written. The exception to this is in the lower register, which you should usually play louder than what is written.
