Robotspidercatsquidhead, I played "Courtly Airs and Dances" with my school's wind ensemble in our first concert. All six movements. We're also performing it in France &we had to sing, too.

I was third flute - what part are you?

I'm playing Boccherini concerto in D, Vivaldi Concerto no.2 in G minor and Mozart Andante for Strings, with CD playalong orchestral accompaniment! Sort of classical karaoke...no ensemble/band or anything near me, so closest I'm going to get...thanks go to Tuttiflutes on Ebay! It's great fun!

Just happened along this forum and was wondering about "Strike Up The Band" by Georges Bizet. Would it be possible for you to use the add melody and post a theme or two? Of all the time I've been interested in Bizet's music, never have I heard of that piece.
i think it can lets see:

btw, for some reason, it's not exactly playing cut time when i tried it. you might want to get your flute out and play it.

Is orchestral playing included in this discussion?
If so, I've been practicing Fire Bird (Stravinsky) for the presentation next tuesday. Really difficult peace, but possible to work step by step.

Also Haydn symphony nr.104, Dvorák's Carnival Overture (also a good challenge), and Ravel's Left Hand Piano Concerto.

(to Kara...) The Nagahara (+Sankyo) headjoint proved it was worth any dolar paid... It's just wonderful at the orchestra!
Though, I still prefer the old Muramatsu to play Haydn, because I feel its tone is better for the classicals.

cheers,
Zevang

Fire Bird.....ouch! That one is HARD!

Zevang, that is great to hear. I did end up buying a different cut Nagahara and sold my A cut. I bought a DA cut with a 14K riser. I am not sure if I am liking the resistance on the low notes, but I think I will have Mr. Nagahara re cut it a tad for me. I liked the free blowing of the A cut, but was too bright for what I needed and the articulation was not nearly as good as the one I have now. I always go back to 14K risers, even when I had an assortment of different metals to choose from. It just fits me well. I put a picture of it on my profile page.

Symphonic Band (community/community college band):
Slavia, by Jan Van Der Roost -loved it,
St. Lawrence Suite, Morton Gould (does this guy give ANY good parts to the flutes?)
Danza Sinfonica, Op. 117 by James Barnes- this one is INCREDIBLE, I challenge any director not to dance (or at least sway!) while conducting it
Finlandia, by Jean Sibelius,
La Fiesta Mexicana, by H. Owen Reed
and Jour D'Ete A La Montagne (flute quartet) by Eugene Bozza, absolutely enchanting
The concert was last week and we get new music next Thursday. I thnk this term we had the most challenging, and for me the most enjoyable, music yet. The first term was a bit lame and I hope I like next term's music.
I just love the Irish Washerwoman, we played that one and I got the piccolo part.

Kara, DA is exactly the cut of my Naga head currently.
I think for the purpose of playing at the symphony orch this cut along with the platinum riser is very good. You know that playing inside the big mass of other instruments, a soloist part (one person each score...), it's important to count on the extra volume and bright this configuration can offer.
I took a look at your profile, and it seems just like mine, just beaufitul! :-)
Though I will not give up my Sankyo NRS1 original headjoint, because it's good for chamber music, as well as my old Silver Muramatsu. Its color works well for barroc music when I play with the piano.

cheers,
Zevang

...,just beautiful! (I meant the headjoint...)

I know that ebayer. She is such an awesome person! I sold a flute to her a while back. Glad to hear you are enjoying that music minus one book. I have the same one and love it. I am really partial to Vivaldi.

<Added>

My mistake, I don't have that one, I have the other one that has Vivaldi in it.

In the Senior Band of my school, we're practising,

Amazing Grace (But im sure its only for warm-ups. its so slow, its not hard to stuff up, lol.)
Aztlan (Wuu Trilling!)
Bohemiam Rhapsody (Yes. The One By Queen. XD)
Canticle (Only one Clarinetist can Play the solo to this song.)
The Incredibles (awesome flute solos)
Mission Imbossible
Mobbussters
Take the 'A' train
Theres a lot of other songs, but we havent started practising them yet. We're practising for the Band Tour in Sept. and Our Local Carnivals' Battle of the School bands in Oct.

Kara and all,

Yesterday was great.
Among the other peaces, Fire Bird Suite was just stunning, closing the program, theatre completelly full, the public loved it.
If I just had the chance to record it, I'd show you how it was.
Traditionally, the listeners can go to the stage after the concert ends. I saw people with open mouths, commenting about the performance, comparing it to the greatests orchestral groups around the world.
I'm a little suspicious to say this, but I have to agree that the results were due to hard work, and the capability of our new director (by the way he's from USA, Ira Levin).
All this was acomplished in 4 rehearsal days.

cheers,

Zevang
