Hi all,
I am a complete beginner when it comes to making music. My interest in flutes started back in high school. I was thinking of joining the school band, but I didn't feel comfortable as a beginner playing with people who had been doing it since at least junior high, so I didn't try.

Now I'm 28, long out of high school, and I'm remembering my interest again. I've started doing some reading about brands and quality and so on, but considering how much these things cost, I'd rather know what I should look for in a good flute. I'm also confused about different features and why someone would choose between this and that.

Could anyone give me a basic primer on flutes? I see terms like B foot, C foot, open or closed holes, headjoints, etc and was hoping people could explain this all to me.

Nice to meet you all!

I would suggest checking out this link:

If that still leaves some questions, feel free to ask! Most of the basic features and options can be researched pretty readily on the internet.
